“IN THE NEGATIVE.”
Minister’s Reply Causes Amusement. QUESTIONS ABOUT RADIO. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, August 13. The laconic answer of the Hon J. B. Donald (Postmaster-General) to a long and fairly complicated question without notice from the member for Timaru (Mr Clyde Carr) greatly amused the Parliamentary audience yesterday. Mr Carr, a regular questioner on the subject of radio, asked the Minister whether it is in accordance with Government policy to permit party political propaganda to be broadcast, and whether he allowed Mr A. C. Campbell, retiring president of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, on August 10, to broadcast opinions which were published in next day’s / newspapers accompanied by a leading article, which, according to the questioner, “described Mr Campbell’s diatribe as to some extent provocative.” “The answer is in the negative,” said the Postmaster-General, “and therefore the point involved in the second part of the question does not arise.” (Loud laughter).
