OBITUARY.

DR HUGH HUNTER. The death occurred yesterday of Dr Hugh Hunter, w r ho for thirty -seven years practised his profession in Ashburton, and lately resided in Christchurch. He was a native of Ireland, and at the time of his graduation at Dublin University was recognised as the most distinguished graduate of the year. Dr Hunter was born in Coleraine, County of Londonderry, Ireland, m 1861, and was in his seventy-first year at the time of his death. He was educated at Coleraine and later at the Dublin University. Dr Hunter went in 1892 to Ashburton,. where he was in practice until 1929. Two years after his arrival, he married the daughter of the Rev David M’Kee. For ten years he was medical superintendent of thd Ashburton Hospital. He was keenly interested in sport, and at various times was president of the Bowling Club and the Golf Club, and at one time held the Golf Club championship. He was also a noted angler. During the war, he spent a term of service at Featherston. A little-known fact about his career in Ashburton was that he was one of the greatest givers to any deserving cause in the county. Many families have reason to remember his- generosity. A fact of -which he was proud was that he had attended at the birth of almost 4000 children during his years of practice __________________
