Sydenham Win A Grade in Schools’ Competition. OVER 700 PLAYERS. The Christchurch primary schools held their basket-ball competitions yes- ! terday afternoon at South Hagley Park, i Although played under boisterous condi- j tions, many interesting games were There were 78 teams competing, making a total of 702 players, who were j divided into the following grades:—A grade (open), B grade (under sft 2in), and C grade (under 4ft lOin). All the finals resulted in elope games, and medals, presented by the Canterbury Rugby Union, were awarded to the Syd- : enham team, winners of the A grade. I The Shirley team won the B grade competition, and Sydenham the C grade. Results:— A Grade. Final—Sydenham 3, Fendalton 1. A close game, with Sydenham unlucky in v their goal-throwing. The winning team was: M. Wilson, P. French, A. Reid, R. Phillips, J. Fraser, J. Horne, G. Hill, L. Newell and P. Carmine. B Grade. Final—Shirley 2, Phillipstown 0. Phillipstown were unlucky to lose, as they displayed better combination. Shirley’s goal-throwing was more accurate, and this gave them the game. The Shirley team was: P. Moffat, R. Alloway, N. Carrington, P. Judd, E. Condell, K. Southon, B. Cullen, J. Porteous, C. Brown. C Grade. Final—Normal 2, Sydenham 0. The winning team was: B. Addis, D. Cook, E. Aldridge, C. Brown, Joyce Collins, Jean Collins, D. Dyer, F. Wright, M. Gumming. A keen game, with the players displaying a good knowledge in all departments. SATURDAY’S MATCHES.
