ESSAY COMPETITION.
Technical College Pupil is Placed First. This year the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Historical Association initiated an essay competition for the fourth forms of the secondary schools in the Canterbury district. The subject set was “ Edward Gibbon Wakefield; his Life and Work.” The response was most pleasing, well over two hundred essays being written. The judges, Miss A. Candy, M.A. and Mr A. J. Campbell, M.A., placed C. R. Bradwell, Technical College, Christchurch, first. The following were highly commended : G. Lawson, Technical College. Nancye Wilson, Rangi-ruru School. Flora Allan, Girls’ High School. The winner will receive a book prize to the value of £1 Is and thcce highly commended a suitably inscribed certificate. . ■■■'— I
