RANGIORA COURT.

Liquor Supplied on a Sunday. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., held a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Rangiora to-day. Junior Evelyn Kerr, who did not appear, was charged that being a person other than the licensee of the Plough Hotel, Rangiora. she supplied liquor on a Sunday. Defendant was also charged with supplying liquor to two young persons. Constable Smith said that he visited the hotel at 8.15 pjn. on July 26, and found two young men who had in their possession six bottles of beer,.which the wife of the licensee admitted supplying. The defendant was convicted and fined £5 and costs 10s on each charge. John Watson Kerr, licensee of the Plough Hotel, admitted supplying liquor on a Sunday and selling liquor to two young persons. In imposing a ; fine of £5 and costs 10s on each charge, the Magistrate said that the defendant, who had only been in possession of a temporary transfer for five weeks, would, to speak colloquially, “ have either to take a pull or get out of the house.” The Licensing Committee, at its meeting, would have to consider whether it would grant a transfer of the license to the defendant. The fines would be made so stiff that it would not pay him to supply liquor on Sundays or to youths. Arnold Richard Taylor and Trevor Wolsley Taylor (Mr Kippenberger) admitted being found on licensed premises on a Sundav and were each fined 20s and costs 10s. Sergeant Cassidy said that he was of the opinion that the defendants, who were respectable youths, had been sent by some older person to obtain the liquor, as he had not known them to enter a hotel previously. Minor Cases. For permitting an unregistered tractor to be used on a highway, George Warner Jackson was fined 20s and costs 12s. In a civil case. North Canterbury Power Board v. M. F. Hall, claim £2l 11s 10d, judgment was given for plaintiff by default. On a judgment summons, G. J. Stone was ordered to pay A. J. Parris £l2 Os 6d forthwith, in default twelve days* imprisonment.
