i Mrs M. G. Bruce (“ Rollesbv,” Burke's Pass) has returned home after a visit to Mrs A. L. Long (Wai-iti Road). Mr and Mrs W. J. Fair - (Douglas Street) are spending race week in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs H. H. Fisher (“ Shenley,” Alburv) are in Christchurch for National Week. Miss Rose Ulrich (Dunedin) arrived yesterday to be the guest of Mrs R L. Orbell (“ The Croft ”) for the TrippOrbell wedding next week. Miss Judith Bradshaw (Waimate), who has been the guest of the Misses Woollcombe (Trafalgar Street), ha« returned home. Miss Betty Murray (“ Braemar,” Mac kenzie County) is the guest of Mrs F. J. Washbourn (“ Wickenford,” Grant’s Road).

Miss Dorothy Roberts (Dunedin) and Miss Rae Trolove (Blenheim), who motored to Timaru from Dunedin on Sunday, have left for Christchurch. Mrs V. F. Boyle (England), who is in Christchurch for the races, will return to Timaru to stay with her mother, Mrs Howard Tripp (Wai-iti Road). Engagement. The engagement is announced of William Allen, younger son of Mr and Mrs Alex Henderson, Sefton Street, Timaru. and Eva, only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. M. Smith, Selwyn Street. The Bluebird Fireside Circle connected with the East Belt Methodist Church, spent an interesting evening recently, when they met at “ Lavington,” Rolleston Street, the home of Mrs C. R. N. Mackie. Mr Mackie gave an address, illustrated by lantern slides, on “ London.” Supper was served by the joint hostesses, Mrs Mackie and Miss E. Keem, after which an elocutionary item, “ The Glory of the Garden,” was given by "Miss I. Armitage Members of the W hare-Ora Club paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mr and Mrs F. H. Knight, Taurangi Home, Ashburton. During the evening, Mr E. N. Johnson, on behalf of the club, made a small presentation to Miss Knight, who is shortly returning to England. Those present were:— Mesdames F. Kn : ght, R. Buxton, F. Buxton, E. Johnson, Fraser, S. Graham, Martin, B Dobbie, L. Stone and A Black, Misses Knight and Baker Messrs Knight, Buxton, Johnson, Graham.
