LATE MRS M. J RICH.

Mrs Mary Jane Rich, who died at her late residence, Clothier’s Road, Clarkville, on August 2, was born in Christchurch in 1854. She was the eldest ; daughter of the late Mr and Mrs SainI uel Clothier, who came to New Zealand i in one of the First Four Ships, the Sir George Seymour, in 1850. After residing , in Christchurch for some time, the family went to live at Kaiapoi Island on a farm situated on what was afterwards known as Clothier’s Road. She was later married to Mr James Rich, of Devonshire, England and settled on 1 the farm adjoining her old home. Mrs Rich was a staunch supporter of the j Church of England. She was an ener- ; getic member of St Augustine’s Guild j and will be greatly missed for her ! amiable and cheery nature. Of a kindly 1 and loving disposition, she was esteemed by a large circle of friends. Mrs j Rich’s husband predeceased her by five J years. She leaves one son, four daughters and thirteen grandchildren to ' mourn their loss. j The funeral which was largely at- . tended by residents of the surrounding districts, took place on Tuesday afternoon at St Augustine’s Churchyard, the Rev C. L. Sparrow officiating at the graveside. The pall-bearers were: j Messrs A. and L. Burgess (grandsons), I H. Clothier and V. Wilson (nephews).
