BRISK BUSINESS.
City Traffic Department is Rushed. ISSUE OF NEW LICENSES. The staff of the City Council’s Traffic Department had a busy time this morning dealing with applications for the issue of driving licenses and inspecting the licenses of drivers who were caught in the big raid yesterday. Up till noon over seventy drivers called to produce their licenses and almost an equal number of new licenses were issued to defaulters. “ The raid has brought us in a good deal of business,” one of the officials remarked, “ and it is unlikely that there will be many unlicensed drivers prepared to take the risk of being caught in the future.” Only about twelve licenses have been issued on the average each day during the past month, so the net spread round the city yesterday is likely to result in a welcome addition to the council’s funds.
