Mr C. B. Norwood arrived from the north this morning. Mr Ji H. C. Bond will leave for the north this evening. Mr G. E. Reeves is spending a few days’ holiday at Akaroa. Messrs G. G. Messrs A. M’Donald (Masterton) and W. W. Allan (Wellington) are guests at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr W. J. Hunter left by the ferry steamer last evening, on his way to northern Hawke’s Bay, where he will remain for a few weeks.

A motion of sympathy with Mr A. H. Bridge, city land surveyor, on the death of his son was carried at the meeting of the City Council last night. Mr H. H. Sterling, manager of the New Zealand Railways, and a member of the Railway Board, arrived from t]*e north this morning.

Mr P. R. Climie, a member of the Unemployment Board, will leave tonight for Wellington to attend a meeting of the board to-morrow. He will return probably on Saturday morning. Mr E. Dobson, son of Sir Arthur Dobson, of Suva, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Suva, accompanied by Mrs Dobson. He has come to New Zealand to undergo hospital treatment. A motion of sympathy with Mr G. M. Fawcett, substation engineer in the M.E.D., on the death of his mother was carried at the meeting of the City Council last evening. Sir John Roberts and Messrs S. K. Sleigh and Ritchie (Dunedin), directors of the Union Steam Ship Company, will leave for the north by the ferry steamer this evening. Mr John Farrell is visiting Christchurch to arrange for the presentation of J. C. Williamson’s musical comedy “Sons o’ Guns” to be staged on August

At the annual reunion of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association last evening reference was made to the deaths of Mr J. Buckland and Mr R. A. Armstrong, two men who were prominently associated with the activities of the association for many i'-ears.

Messrs B. G. Thompson (Melbourne), G. L. Anderson and R. C. Somerville (Wellington), G. Dewhurst (Palmerston *North), R. Greenslade, G. Hastie, R. Brown, E. Holme and F. Pithie (Dunedin) and W. L. Milne (Gore) are guests at the New City Hotel. Engineer Rear-Admiral E. D. Sydenham, C.8.E., who until April of this year was director of construction and engineering to the Royal Australian Navy at the naval headquarters, Melbourne, is at present visiting Christchurch. He is staying at Warner’s Hotel. He will spend some time in New Zealand before returning to England.

Sir Charles Statham, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has become an honorary life fellow of the International Accountants’ Co-operation and Bookkeepers’ Institute, Inc., the head office of which is in Melbourne. He is also president of the New Zealand Executive Council, and will preside at the first annual meeting to be held in Wellington.
