NEW GUINEA EARTHQUAKE.

CANBERRA, August 10 | The Administrator of New Guinea ! has notified Mr J. by radio! that a severe earthquake occurred at ] Aaitape at midday on Friday, lasting for fortv seconds. The foundations of | six bungalows were damaged, but i there were no casualties. Tne earthquake was recorded in j Christchurch at 12.50 p in., the indication being that it was 3500 miles away. ! north of_ Australia. The seismograph station at West Bromley. Staffordshire, England, placed the shake between New Guinea and J Fiji, and the Riverview Observatory, j Sydney, placed it in the Pacific Ocean.
