More Misused Words.

To the Editor. Dear Sir,—l feel grieved sometimes to find Christchurch journals referring to “ a hotel.” To my mind—l don’t know where I got the rule from—it should be “an hotel.” The principle seems to be that when the emphasis on words beginning with “ h " is on the second syllable, “an” should be used. We should say “ a history," because the emphasis is on the first syllable, but “an historical,” because the emphasis is on the second syllable. Does “Touchstone” support this?—l am. etc. INTERESTED.
