A large shipment of sugar for Christchurch merchants is due to-morrow by the steamer Wingatui, but this will not be affected by the new duty imposed and will be available at the old price. A merchant stated the other day that if the duty was added when it had not actually been paid on the goods, the retailer could claim a refund.
