WHO’S WHO IN THE GRAND NATIONAL.

17—TUNAMOE. Tunamoe commenced racing as a fb-e----vear-old, competing in five event*, hurdles and steeplechases, without earning any money. lie showed great improvement at six years, as he started twelve times. L in* in the money in his first ten engagements. lie won a double over hurdles at Gore in the spring and then ran second in the Winton Steeplechase; A win and a second over hurdles at South Canterbury were followed by a second and a third at the Dunedin summer meeting. Another win at Wvndham, then a second and a third at Invercargill completed the sequence and he finished up with two unplaced performances at the Dunedin autumn meeting. Unsoundness necessitated a long spell and he was not seen again for more than a year. He made his reappearance at South Canterbury in June of last year, when he was second in two steeplechases. A week later, at Ashburton, he was second to Radiate in the Dromore Steeplechase. When he was being taken off the motor-float at Washdyke that night, he was knocked down by a motor-car and suffered severe injuries, necessitating a long spell. He emerged last February, at Gore, when he was unplaced in the first Highweight Handicap and was second the next day, while in the following month he was third in a flat race at Otautau. At the Dunedin winter meeting, he was second in two hack steeplechases, won by Umtali and West Dome respectively, winding up by securing first money in the Dunedin Steeplechase, though beaten by Kapuna. who was placed second, after an inquiry for boring. He raced well most of the way in two starts at Trentham, though lie fell in the Wellington Steeplechase and was pulled up in the July Steeplechase after a faulty jump. A week later he won the South Canterbury Steeplechase, giving an attractive display.

Mr W J. Kelly’s b g TUNAMOE. b % Balboa-—Glenapp mare, 9.0. Tunamoe, in spite of his Trentham failures, is a good jumper, with reasonable prospects of getting round, in which case he should show up prominently, though he has no form over a long steeplechase journey. 18.—DIAMOND JACK. Mr F. C. Pratt's br g DIAMOND JACK, by Ace of Diamo’nds Miss Maronan, 9.0. Diamond Jack is a product of the hunting field. He has been hunted in South Canterbury for a few seasons and has done a bit of racing, chiefly in hunters’ events, always ridden by his owner, a young farmer, who is very; fond of the cross countrv sport. He did a little racing without success, on the flat and over country, at three and four years. He ran several times on the flat in the spring of his five-year-old season, while the following winter he won the Pareora Hunters* Steeplechase at South Canterbury. The following winter, on the same course, he won a hack and hunters’ steeplecliase, Tunamoe being second. After failing twice at Trentham, he was third to Radiac and French Fleet in the South Canterbury Steeplechase. Last August he was unplaced in the Beaufort and won the Aylesbury Steeplechase, while a month later he won the Otago Hunt Club Steeplechase. He has started seven times this winter, but only twice has he been in the money, being third in the Riverton Steeplechase and second to Oriflamb at Ashburton. Though he is a good jumper and a useful hunter. Diamond Jack has done nothing entitling him to compete with decent prospects in an event of this class.
