RICCARTON NOTES.

SOME SMART SPRINTS.

Sunday. After a sharp overnight frost, the weather was fine, though cold, this morning, when the course was open for training operations, following the usual custom on the Sunday before the opening of a race meeting. The number seven grass track was available for galloping but only a few horses worked on it, most of them going on the sand, where they got through strong pacing.
