EIGHT FALSE PRETENCE CHARGES MAY BE LAID.

James Alban Iloban, aged 55, a labourer, of 30, Armagh Street, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., this morning, that on June 1. at Auckland, with intent to defraud, he obtained £5 in money and clothing from Hugh Wright by falsely representing that a cheque drawn" on the Bank of New Zealand at Nelson was a good and valid order. Accused was remanded until August 18.

Chief-Detective Carroll said that there were about eight charges from cases at Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington. Accused was arrested on Saturday and desired to be dealt with in ( hristchurch, so that a remand would be necessary to allow inquiries to be made.
