WRESTLING.

AMATEUR TOURNAMENT. The Canterbury Wrestling- Association conducted an amateur tournament last evening, when a crowd of about 200 witnessed a number of well-conttest-ed bouts. During the evening Mr Jack Shaw, the Auckland referee, demonstrated a number of holds. The following were the rtesults:— D. Ford (Sst 91b) beat It. Northcote (7st Sib). Ford was the stronger of the two and attacked from the beginning, using the side chancery and head locks, although the other boy showed cleverness on tlip mat. Ford, however, was too strong, and he secured falls in the second and third rounds. It. Mallocli (9st 121 b) beat G. Barren (9st 121 b). Barren rushed at his opponent, who put ori a sitting toe hold and the splits, but could not secure a fall. In the next round Barron, when holding a short arm scissors let his shoulders drop and Mallocli secured a fall. Malloch pinned Barron with a reverse head lock, but the pair were called back to the centre of the ring. Malloch secured his second fall with a body press. H. G. Wilton (lOst 51b) beat J. Jones (Dst 71b). Wilton was the more experienced of tho two, but Jones was strong and succeeded in Wading a fall although he went close to it. In the second round Wilton secured a fall from a body scissors*. In the final round Wilton put on the body scissors several times, but could not press home the advantage, although before tho end of the match he secured a second fall from a body press. R. Hawke (list 21b) beat It. Bradley (lost 101 b). Both wrestlers were strongly built and made the going willing. Hawke secured a fall with a jack knife. Hawke was the stronger and more experienced wrestler and ended the bout in the second round with a body press. It. Price (12st 41b) drew with Iv. Asher (l2st). Although Asher was the more scientific. Price had a big advantage in strength and gained a submission fall in the second round. Asher made the pace in tho -third round and drew the bout with a double log hold. V. Barton (lOst 131 b) beat F. A. Logie (lOst olb) in two straight falls after a good bout. A fast bout between P. Devine (lOst 101 b) and J. Daley (lOst 101 b), a wellmatched pair, ended in a draw, each securing a fall. P. Kane (Sst Gib) drew with B. R. Kennedy (7st 41b). KARA PASHA RETURNS. On Grand National Night, Tuesday next, tho Canterbury Wrestling Association will hold its fourth contest of the season in the Civic Theatre. For tho third time this season Kara Pasha. “ The Terrible Turk,” will meet fhc famous Greek wrestler, Harry Demetral. The first bout between this pair of spectacular wrestlers was held in Wellington when Pasha gained a victory by a single fall, which ho obtained by applying his famous “Boston crab” in the sixth round. The second match at Palmerston North last week resulted in a draw, hundreds being turned away. On that occasion Demetral pinned Pasha with a headlock ami body press in the fourth round, but the Turk again produced the Boston crab in the last, round and obtained a draw. Demetral has a great record, having defeated such

well-known men as Mike Yokel and John Kilonis. and he has drawn with Clarence Ecklund and Abe Colman, both of whom are well-known in this country. He is the master of the famous “keylock,” while the Turk’s favourite route to victory is by Way of the Boston crab.” both holds being of the most deadly in the wrestling: game. As both wrestlers have been training hard and are in the pink of condition, the third meeting promises to produce a spectacular and exciting bout. The international bout of eight ten-minute rounds will bo preceded by four amateur matches. Tuesday night is a race night and a record attendance is expected, patrons would therefore be well advised to purchase their tickets or reserve their seats without delay at Lange’s. United Service Buildings, where all tickets are now available.
