"CITY LIGHTS ” AT PLAZA.

Charlie Chaplin's latest film, “ City Lights,” is being screened for a short season at the Plaza. Theatre after a record season at the Theatre Royal. The story is a simple one •of everyday life in any large citj’, but the wonderful human touch that Chaplin imparts to it makes of it a masterpiece. From the first scene, the audience rocks with laughter, and this is sustained until the end. when Chaplin makes his exit in a fashion that, leaves everyone happy in the knowledge that the waif of the streets has come into liis own at last. The production is without dialogue, but this does not detract from its entertainment value in the slightest degree, the musical synchronisation and sound effects proving adequate substitutes. The picture is undoubtedly Chaplin’s greatest contribution to the screen since he became a public idol.
