RESCUER’S BRAVERY EARNS RECOGNITION.

(Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, August 6. In recognition of a gallant act of rescue in Evans Bay on December 26, Mr Mervvn Leake, of Ilaitaitai, at a ! social gathering in conjunction with the annual prize giving of the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Association, was presented with the certificate ol the Royal Humane Society by Mr R. Semple, M.P. A boat capsized in Evans Bay, throwing two women and a man into the water. He at once took a dinghy from a yacht and in a very heavy sea succeeded in picking up the women, who were clinging to the boat, and rescuing the man, C. J. Thomas, who was completely exhausted and on the point of sinking. The dinghy was swamped before reaching the shore, but Leake succeeded in getting all three safely to land.
