FURTHER DONATIONS TO THE POUND SCHEME,
The appeal of the Central Pound Scheme Depot for tea supplies has had an excellent response. From an anonymous donor 130 pounds of tea were sent in this morning; and the firm of Messrs Fletcher, Humphreys, Ltd., gave three and a half chests. The scheme has been very fortunate this week. In addition to the goods sent in from Sheffield yesterday, additional supplies were received to-day from farmers at Domett, the first contributions from that district. Those in charge of the scheme hope in future to get regular supplies of produce from the country. Supplies were also received from North Lin wood and Waimairi, a district which has already given generously. The depot also received its first consignment, seventy-eight sacks, of potatoes from the plot given by Mr J. R. M'Kenzie at Yaldhurst. This field of four acres, which is being dug by men employed by the depots under the No. 5 Scheme, is expected to produce much-needed supplies.
