Getting Into Debt. “ In my days young fellows did not get into debt and did not incur liabilities that they could not meet,” remarked Mr A. M. He had personally to serve papers on residents of the Dannevirke district, and was pressed for time. lie accordingly chartered an aeroplane from the Wairarapa Aero Club and left Masterton at 11 a.m The journey to Dannevirke—s4 miles by rail—took 40 minutes, and Mr Burridge was able to transact his business, have lunch, and be back at Masterton by two o’clock in the afternoon. Unemployed men are making a great improvement in the condition of the Heathcote River on the stretch near the bottom of Hackthorne Road. The operations, which are being carried out under the supervision of the Drainage Board, are putting the finishing touches to a programme of work over the last few years, which has resulted in the Avon and Heathcote Rivers being cleaned for almost their whole length. A suggestion has been made that the rowing course could be dredged by the sweeper after the proposed weir across the Avon at Medway Street has been erected. The idea is to increase the deptli of water over the course, the level being held up by the The Anglican Bishops. It is recorded in the “ Nelson Diocesan Gazette ” that on July 21 the Bishop of Nelson entered on the twentieth year of his episcopate on January 16. He was Bishop of Waiapu from his consecration until September, 30, 1913. when he was translated to Auckland. The Bishop of Christchurch was consecrated as Bishop of Barrow-in-Furness on September 21, 1909, and translated to Christchurch on August 24. 1926, so that he is nearing the end of his twentythird year. The Bishop of Wellington is in his twenty-first year, the Bishop of Dunedin is in his twelfth year, and the Bishop of Waikato is in his fifth year, and the Bishop of Waiapu in his second year, as bishop.
