SUCCESSFUL CLAIM FOR REFUND OF RATES.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. August 4 A refund of £ll 5s 4d. I>eing half rates paid in respect of two unoccupied houses at Eastbourne, was ordered bv Mr E. Page. SM. at the Magistrat ; Court to-day. when he delivered judgment in favour of J. R. K. Bennett, who claimed to recover that amount from the Eastbourne Borough Council under Section 69 of the Rating Act. 1925. Mr Page said it was provided th »t where any dwelling-house or oth< r building remained actually vacant at. ! unoccupied for not less than sin months in any rating rear and the owner >:«' notice to the local authuritv. he v* >u ' be liable to pay only one-half of tl.j amount of the year's rates.
