The expression “Go to Bath! ” arose f iom an omission m an Act of Parliament It authorised grants to send sick persons to Bath for the waters, but made no provision for their return. The result was that manv had to remain! there. So “Go to Bath! ” is an un- ’ complimentary invitation to go away and stay away.
