BRILLIANT SCENE AT CALEDONIAN HALL.
LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ HAVE ANNUAL BALL. Always noted for their hospitality, the members of the committee of the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers’ Association surpassed even their previous efforts last evening, when the annual ball of the association was held in the Caledonian Ilall. Every effort was made to provide for the comfort and entertainment of the guests, who numbered over 350. The ball was an unqualified success and the decorative scheme was especially effective. In the ballroom, streamers in the associa tion colours, black and gold, were arranged alternately in radiating designs round the walls, while an enormous canopy of black and gold streamers was formed from the centre of the ceil ing to the walls. Streamers in the same colours in quaint design with a small fringed edge softened the brilliance of the electric lights. Vases of narcissi and birch foliage decorated the supper tables. Below the stage, which was massed with palms and hothouse plants, were the buffets. Music was supplied by the Bailey-Marston Orchestra. The members of the ball committee were:—Messrs R. Nash, T. Aspell, J. C. Wallace, J. L. Bennett, J. Bisman, J. M. Coffey, J. J. Cotter, R. C. Dobson, IT. L. Dyer, D. Edmonds, J. Griffin, T. ITampson, T. G. Hodgson, A. J. Lambert, J. M’Clure, W. M. Nidd, H.
