WELLINGTON, August 4. Afte- a full discussion in committee, the Wellington Rugby Union this evening decided to suggest to the Hawke’S Bay Uni»in that the latter’s challenge for the Ranfurly Shield should be played in Wellington on September 26, and that the Wellington representative team should play in Hawke’s Bay on October 3. Owing to a misapprehension, the letter from Hawke’s Bay stated, the. application for the earlier date had been sent to the New Zealand Union. The intention was to ask the Wellington Union for a date prior to September 26 and not to call on the New Zealand Union to decide. The application to the latter body had been withdrawn. “ Taking into consideration the full programme of your union this season," an extract from the letter said. “we would now favour a match on October 3. provided vou can obtain the sanction of the New Zealand Union to waive the Shield rules on this question.” An official application from the Canterbury Union to make the match with Wellington on August 22 a Shield challenge match, was accepted. REDUCED CHARGES ARE NOT GIVEN APPROVAL.
