The Canterbury Team

To the Editor. Dear Sir,—After the comment on the Southland'-Canterburv Rugby match, it appeared as if your regular Rugby reporter must have been on holiday, but surely to goodness he can give us something a little more critical and less complacent. To those who have attended the Park all this year it is a great disappointment. The forwards are not so bad, but surely C. Perkins is superior to Tom Robinson. Also, why Pease is kept in the pack in preference to C. Quaid or G. Suckling is beyond me. Two shocking games should dispose of the idea that Mullan is a Rep half. What about Vincent, the most reliable place-kick in the city. Day is a trimmer only he makes his half pass too far, and Oliver, if he would only run a little straighter, would make even more good openings. Innes is rather out of place at centre but have the selectors forgotten that he gave the soundest full-back display of the season? Why not replace him with M’Phail and put him full-back? Roberts is hardly up to senior, let alone Rep standard. I suggest the following as a good team to try on South Canterbury. Backs.—lnnes, Ilart, M’Phail, Bill Brown, Oliver. Day, W. Vincent. Forwards.—A. H. Andrew's (w r ing\ C. Quaid. A. I. Cottrell, C. 11, PerJkins, Langdale-Hunt, J. Manchester, Sweeney and G. Suckling. Williams, Ilazlehurst. Kearney and Foley could be emergencies.—l am etc.. NOT SO MUCH EYEWASH.
