COUNTY COUNCIL WILL OPPOSE TRANSPORT BILL.
Mr W. G. Chapman made a vigorous protest at last night’s meeting of the Waimairi County Council regarding the Government Transport Licensing Bill, lie said that the counties had everything to lose by the suggested legislation. It meant a loss of licensing and heavy traffic fees. The Act was unfair and was simply a Government: “Get off the road and come to the railway. ’
Mr Gardner said that the suggested legislation required careful consideration by the various interests concerned. The Act was probably a policy measure of the Government's and little could be done. It was evidently a move to collar the transport. The discussion was mostly hostile to the Bill and it was left to a sub-com-mittee with power to act.
