COMMUNISTS TRY TO STIR UP STRIFE.
COMPLAINT ABOUT FOOD AT AUCKLAND DEPOTS
(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, July 13. “ Come on boys. Who will stand by us?” These words shouted in the faces of 200 men at the City Mission’s night shelter were intended to incite to riot, but only about twelve men rallied to the standard of revolt and the attempt at violence fizzled out. Scenes of similar character are being enacted frequently in other quarters of the city at soup kitchens and free clothing depots, and always the same twelve men are the disturbing element. They are identified as Communists, a small group bent on stirring up discontent. Their favourite call to arms is “ The food is putrid.”
