MEMORIAL SERVICE OF LATE MRS H. BUTTLE.
A large and representative congregation attended at St Paul’s Methodist Church, Sumner, yesterday morning, when a special service was held in memory of the late Mrs H. Buttle. The first part of the service was conducted by the Rev A. T. Kent, of Sumner, who was followed by the Rev W. Baumber, of Christchurch, who had been intimately connected with the commencement of the Methodist Church in Sumner at the time when Mrs Buttle was associated with the work. Mr Baumber referred to Mrs Buttle’s unfailing support to her husband’s efforts in church work. He had been privileged to come in contact also with her work in the Nelson district, where her enthusiasm had proved invaluable. Mr Baumber took as his text Revelation xxii., part of verses 3 and 4, “ And His servants shall serve Him, and they shall see His face.” The lesson read by the Rev A. T. Kent was Psalm xxiii. The soloists were Mrs F. N. Kerr, who sang “ Crossing the Bar,” and Mrs Owen, who sang “Come Unto Me All Ye that Labour, and I will Give You Rest” (Handel). Miss J. Austin presided at the organ.
