CAN CARNERA BEAT SHARKEY?

Italian Giant is Faster Now. Having decisively beaten the IrishAustralian, Pat Redmond, Camera, the Italian giant, is certain to be matched very soon against Jack Sharkey. Writing on May 7, the “ Star’s ” London correspondent, gives some interesting comment on the chances of the two men:— “ I am assured by various friends, who are closely in touch with Camera, that in the absence of some accident—that is if Sharkey conforms rigidly to rules—the Italian is sure to win. For they say: ‘ Camera has positively thrived on his training since last in London against Reggie Meen. For such a mountainous fellow he was always fast, incredibly so, but now he is faster than ever, and has improved his boxing 50 per cent.’ We shall see. I am, however, inclined to take the improvement of Camera for granted. He certainly has destroyed first impressions that a man so huge is necessarily a dullard. When I last spoke to him I was much struck by his intelligence, and grasp of the finer points of boxing. It is said that he has now learned to punch with much skill. If that is so, Sharkey need expect squalls. If Camera can put behind his punches a tithe of the physical strength he possesses, then, indeed, he must be phenomenal. I have no definite knowledge of what will be the rules governing the fight, but in any - case Camera must be well aware that Sharkey will, as always, do his fighting without the least ceremony. " Whenever Sharkey has been in a tight corner, he has carried himself as one of the most reckless fighters who ever drew on a glove. If Camera wins, which is as likely as not, he will be considered to have established an indisputable right to fight for the title. That is, if he is allowed his deserts, he will be matched with the winner of the bout between Young Stribling and Max Schmeling, who are to take the ring at Cleveland, Ohio, on July 3. I shall be tremendously surprised if Stribling does not account for Schmeling, who will be a wonder of wonders if he shows that he is none the worse for his long inactivity. To my thinking Stribling is the best of all the heavyweights, and I do not except Camera.”
