’QUAKES FELT AT HASTINGS TO-DAY.

BUILDINGS RATTLED TO ALARMING DEGREE. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, June 22. Two earthquakes of considerable intensity were felt in Hastings this morning, one at 3.47 and the other at 7.32. The second was noticeably heavier. Both had a jolting, rather than a swaying motion. The seismograph here shows that both were probably purely local to the district. Both tremors, especially the second, were rather alarming. They rattled buildings and contents to an alarming degree. The second was not comparable with any shakes here, excepting the major shakes of February 3 and February 13. Seas have been rough for several days. Heavy rain is now falling steadily. NAPIER TO RECEIVE HANDSOME CLOCK. IS GIFT FROM LORD AND LADY BLEDISLOE. Per Press Association. NAPIER, June 22. A handsome grandfather clock is to be presented to Napier by the Gover-nor-General and Lady Bledisloe. The movement of the timepiece will be the product of British workmanship and the case of New Zealand woods. Arrangements have been made by Lord Bledisloe for early delivery. Their Excellencies left for Wellington on the express train this morning. During the week-end the members of the party were much interested in Napier’s shopping centre, where they made some purchases.
