STRUCK MATCH TO FIND GAS LEAKAGEE.

OLD MAN ESCAPES EFFECTS OF EXPLOSION. Per Pres 3 Association. AUCKLAND, June 21. Two rooms in a house in Newton Road were wrecked by an explosion of gas to-day, when the owner, William Probert, aged eighty-three, went to investigate a leakage and struck a match. Portion of the side wall of the house was blown out, a window and its frame were thrown some distance, and the ceiling in one room was brought down. Mr Probert was not injured, although he suffered from shock, and his face was singed. His wife, the only other occupant of the house, escaped injury.
