Two rooms in a house in Newton Road were wrecked by an explosion of gas to-day, when the owner, William Probert, aged eighty-three, went to investigate a leakage and struck a match. Portion of the side wall of the house was blown out, a window and its frame were thrown some distance, and the ceiling in one room was brought down.
