PERSONAL.
Ministerial. The Minister of Lands (the Hon E A. Ransom) has returned to Wellington after a tour of inspection of settlements in the Wairarapa district. The Hon J. B.'Donald, PostmasterGeneral, arrived in Wellington on Thursday from Auckland. The Minister of Railways (the Hon W. A. Veitch) has returned to Wellington from the north.
Mr L. Ilazlett (Invercargill) is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs 11. C. Newman (Hokitika) and P. W. Maddock (Wellington) are guests at Warner’s Hotel.
Messrs H. Fildes (Wellington) and L. 11. Allen (New York) are staying at the United Service Hotel.
Mr Mischa Levitzki, the famous pianist, accompanied by Mr E. J. Gravestock, will arrive in Christchurch on Wednesday morning. Mr C. Russell-Bunn, branch manager for Gordon and Gotch (New Zealand) is at present in Christchurch. Guests at .the Royal Hotel include Messrs S. A. Waller (Wellington) and M. R. Crosbie (Nelson). Messrs 11. T. Armstrong, M.P., A. M. Burns, J. A. Redpath, J. E. Henrys and R. A. Anderson were passengers by the ferry steamer from Wellington this morning.
Mr Allan Wilkie, the Shakespearean actor, arrived from the north this morning, and is staying at Warner’s Hotel. He will leave on Monday for the south. Dr Kenneth Ross, Messrs J. A. Scouler, J. S. Spence, J. Gordon Dick, J. M’Dougall, D. Wright, J. R. Laidlaw, W. F. Wright and E. W. Reed (Dunedin) are members of the Otago golf team staying at the United Service Hotel.
Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P., returned to Christchurch this morning after three weeks’ absence in the North Island, where he has been doing organising work for the Labour Party, particularly at Raglan and Rotorua. Mr Armstrong will remain in Christchurch until Wednesday next, when he leaves for Wellington to attend the opening of the session.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sir Charles Statham, who has been spending a holiday at Rotorua, has returned to Wellington. He is now. in residence at Parliament House in readiness for the opening of the session next Thursday.
1 he death occurred at Wanganui yesterday, after a short illness, of Mr Frank Crotty, aged thirty-three. He left with the 19th Reinforcements at the age of seventeen, lie served three years with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He was well known in Rugby football and rowing circles, and was one of the most popular comedians in amateur theatricals in Wanganui.
