BOARD WILL ASK COURT’S RULING.
DISMISSAL NOTICES FOR MARRIED WOMEN. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 20. In order to place its deci*>on to dismiss certain married women teachers beyond doubt, the Auckland Education Board intends to secure a declaration judgment from the Supreme Court. Notices of dismissal to teachers who, in the board’s opinion, would not be harshly treated by dismissal, are being prepared, but if the court’s decision is adverse they will be withdrawn. The board’s solicitor, unlike the solicitors of some southern boards, has advised it that it has a clear right of dismissal.
SUPERANNUATION FUND POSITION EXPLAINED
(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 20. Further reference to the position of the teachers’ superannuation fund was made at a meeting of the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, when Mr F. A. Garry, a member of the Superannuation Board, was criticised for his recent announcement regarding the serious state of the fund.
At a gathering of Auckland teachers last week, Mr Garry said that if the present position continued the fund would practically cease to exist, in fifteen years.
“ Since making the position public, I have been besieged with letters and calls from perturbed teachers,” said Mr Garry. “No one need worry unduly about the fund. I am sure some way will be found of getting over the difficulty.” There was no danger, he said, of pensions not being paid to teachers retiring within the next few years.
