REMITS PASSED BY BEEKEEPERS .

METHODS OF IMPROVING THE INDUSTRY AIRED, j A number of remits were discussed this morning at the annual conference of the National Beekeepers* Association of New Zealand. Mr R. Gibb presided. Mr W. J. C. Ashcroft (Hawke's Bay) moved that funds to maintain part-time inspectors should be raised by the imposition of a tax on each apiary. He said that the remit was self-explanatory. A tax per hive would be too severe for the bigger apiaries. Mr A. R. Bates said that the remit was wasting the time of the conference. Ho suggested that the part-time inspectors should continue the work in an honorary capacity. He himself had continued the inspection work in this way. The remit was withdrawn. Mr P. A. Hillary (Auckland) moved a recommendation, that extracts from the Apiaries Act should be printed for the information of apiarists on the back of registration papers. The remit was carried. Mr W. J. C. Ashcroft moved that conditions for the display of honey at various shows, such as the size and type of containers, should be standardised. The matter was left to the executive. A remit concerning compulsory grading of honey for the local market was defeated. The Feilding branch gave notice of motion for the next annual conference: That as there are quite a number of young people under eighteen years of age taking an interest in beekeeping, they be admitted as junior members-of the association at a fee of 2s 6d.
