CABARET AND DANCE TO AID UNEMPLOYED.

EFFORT ORGANISED BY JUNIOR REFORM LEAGUE

The Women’s Unemployment Committee should benefit considerably by the cabaret and dance organised by the members of the Junior Reform League and held in the Winter Garden last evening. Every effort had been made to provide pleasing entertainment for the guests, the evening being fjronounced a great success. To further the funds, an auction of the alcoves was conducted by Mr Alan Matson at the beginning of the dance and resulted in sOme lively bidding. Cabaret items were interspersed among the dances, the artists giving their services for the occasion. The items were: Miss Mary Menzies’ pupils tableau, “La Frise Blanche”; Miss Dorothy Manhire’s troupe, “Jazz Ballet”; Miss Evelyn Edgar and Mr W. Wallace, exhibition of modern ballroom dancing; Messrs Moran and Lawrence, “In Close Harmony” (entertainers) ; Mr Basil Robinson, eccentric dance: Mr David M’Gill, song, “Carnival.”

Bouquets were presented to Miss Menzies, Miss Manhire and Miss Edgar.

As a grand finale, Mr M’Gill led the dancers and onlookers in community singing—“ Dancing With Tears in My Eyes.” While this was in progress 500 balloons were released from the ceiling, to fall in a variegated shower upon the crowd beneath. The Bailey-Marston orchestra supplied the music for the dancing. Those present included Mr H. Holland, M.P., and Airs Holland. Mesdames Alan Matson, K. S. Hartshorn. E. J. Pumphrey, C. J. Wilson, O.
