WAGES REDUCED AT AUCKLAND HOSPITAL

BOARDING ALLOWANCES NOT TO BE COMPUTED. (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 17. As directed by the Hon A. J. Stallworthy, the Auckland Hospital Board has applied the 10 per, cent reduction to all salaries and wages. “ This is not the board’s doing. It is being done at the dictation of the Minister,” said the chairman (Mr W. Wallace). The Government must take all responsibility.” The Finance Committee reported that, in view of the Government’s assurance that it was not intended to include the value of the residential boarding allowance when computing the rate of reduction required m nurses’ salaries, the committee considered that no increase in salaries was now called for by way of compensation.
