St Albans Pound Scheme. A well-attended meeting of the residents of the St Albans School district was held last night over which Councillor J. W. Beanland presided. The chairman and Mr W. Scarff, of the organising depot outlined the pound scheme. Those present formed themselves into a general committee to be sub-divided into four districts with a central executive and secretary. Several offers of transport were received, also an offer of a depot. The subdivision of the district was left to the next meeting, which will to be held in the St Matthew’s Schoolroom on Saturday next at 7.30 p.m. Oak of Sydenham Lodge. The half-yearly meeting of the Oak of Sydenham Lodge, No. 15, U.A.0.D., was held in the Friendly Societies’ Hall, Hazeldean Road. A.D. Brother S. E*. Wise presided, and D.P. Brother R. Wright was present. Sick pay amounting to £ll 15s lOd was passed for payment. Brother E. W. Ayling, auditor, read the balance-sheet and report for the past half-year. The principal items were:—Sick pay for the past half-year, £lB2 Is Sd; profit for the past half-year, £l5B 16s; interest, £193; total fund, £7524; total membership, 265. AD. Brother S. E. Wise reported that the church parade held recently was a great success. A collection had resulted in £5 Is being received for the Mayor’s Coal and Blanket Fund. The election of officers resulted as follows: —A.D., Brother S. E. Wise; V.A., Brother T. Satterthwaite, jun.: secretary, Brother A. E. T. Williams; treasurer, Brother J. Fisher; minute secretary, Brother J. C. Edmond; A.D. Bards, Brothers H. Ellis and C. W. Crouch; V.A. Bards, Brother J. Satterthwaite and Brother J. Byrne; 1.G., Brother J. Puddle; 0.G., Brother T. Satterthwaite, sen.; trustee, Brother R. Wright; dispensary delegates, P.A. Brother J. H. Wear and P.A. Brother R. Hulbert; auditors, P.A. Brother J. H. Wear and Brother E. W. Ayling; Benevolent Association, P.G.P. Brother J. Fisher and A.D. Brother Wise. D.P. Brother R. Wright, assisted by Brother W. H. Jones, secretary of the Perseverance Lodge, installed the officers. At the next lodge meeting, on June 24, the lodge will entertain the Acorn and Perseverance Lodges at a card evening. Richmond Burgesses. The monthly meeting of the Richmond Burgesses’ Association was held in the Druids’ Hall, Avalon Street, Mr S. *»• Richardson presiding. The City Council, in reply to the association’s protest against the omission of certain Richmond streets from the schedule of works proposed m the £39,500 roading loan, stated that the streets named by the association would receive consideration when the schedule was finally prepared. A request for an inspection of Richmond by the Works Committee of the City Council was acceded to. _ The association s request to the M.E.D. for an inspection of wires in Hill’s Road, as it was considered that the trolley-bus wires had strained and loosened them, was acknowledged. The association was assured that every care had been taken. The Port Christchurch League wrote asking the association to call a public meeting at which members of the league would give addresses. It was resolved to reply that if the league could arrange a meeting without expense to the association, the association would give its assistance. The St Albans Burgesses’ Association wrote inviting members to a friendly game of cards and billiards on Thursday, July 2. The invitation was accepted. The secretary and president were also invited to attend the annual social on June 17. Messrs James Stewart (chairman), A. Hutcheson and W. M’Arthur were appointed the works committee for the year. _ A letter from the United Burgesses’ Association asking the association’s opinion on joining a political body was discussed, and it was unanimously decided to adhere to the rules that the association be a non-party and nonsectarian body. Residents adjoining Dudley Creek protested against the practice of Drainage Board employees in dumping rubbish on private property when cleaning the creek. It was decided to write to the postmaster asking that a telephone slot machine be installed at the corner of Stanmore Road and North Parade. A remit is to be sent to the United Burgesses’ Association asking them to support the City Council’s proposed £39,500 loan. North Beach Boy Scouts. At the monthly meeting of the committee of the North Beach Boy Scouts Troop there were present—Mesdames W. E. S. Furby, C. Seymour, W. A. Smith and A. H. Sneesby, Messrs E. A. M. Leaver, R. Parker, A. H. Sneesby, D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and Commissioner Furby. Mr Parker presided. The Scoutmaster reported that by the courtesy of the North Beach Gala and Foreshore Improvement Society, satisfactory arrangements had been made for the use of the Peace Memorial Hall for one night each week. Mrs W. E. S. Furby was appointed treasurer. It was decided that the troop assist with the pound scheme for unemployment relief. It was decided to hold a concert and cabaret dance at an early date. In his report the Scoutmaster advised that the strength of the troop was at present—Two scouters, one troop leader, four acting-patrol leaders, tw’enty scouts and several other boys were being trained to become scouts. In addition to the evening parades, outdoor parades had been held on Saturday afternoons, and during the recent term holidays a troop parade was held on a week-day and one patrol leader held his own patrol parade. On the King’s Birthday a whole day parade was held. Messrs D. Summerfield, Rookwood Avenue, and Eric Briggs, of Berry Street, had been appointed instructors in ambulance and signalling respectively. A vote of thanks was accorded the North Beach Surf Club for the use of its pavilion. It was decided to hold the committee meetings on the second Monday of each month.

Sumner School Committee. The Sumner School Committee, at its last meeting, passed a vote of thanks to parents and householders for their generous support to the cake stall held recently, which resulted in the sum of £lO 5s being raised toward its clinic funds. The cake-judging competition was won by Mr Klingenstein. Phillipstown School. At a meeting of the newly-elected committee of the Phillipstown School, the Rev C. A. Fraer was elected chairman, and Mr G. Rich secretary. The chairman reported on the repairs being carried out at the school. Messrs Fraer, F. Agassiz and W. G. Burgess were elected to represent the committee upon the School Committees’ Association. Ihe monthly meeting of the committee was fixed for the third Tuesday in each month. Arrangements were made for the committee to meet and inspect the school and grounds.
