SUMNER INSPECTED BY NEW COUNCILLORS.

The newly elected Sumner Borough Council paid a visit of inspection through the district from Taylor’s Mistake to the Redeliffs waterworks on Saturday afternoon. The party, consisting of the Mayor, Mr W. 11. Nicholson, and Councillors A. Ilolden, D. F. Aldridge, J. E. Tait, IP L- Wiggins, G. F. Allen, C. Hart, and J. S. Barr, was accompanied by the Town Clerk, Mr J. F. Menzies, the borough engineer, Mr G. Harper, and the lighting manager, Mr A. A. Chesh--Ihe protective wall along the main beach was included in the tour, the borough engineer pointing out the action of the heavy tides upon the “green” cement. It was stated that compared with other similar works on the sea front, the wall had been fortunate in withstanding the heavy storms with so little damage. There, also, the new councillors were shown the effluent pumping station controlled by auto matic electric pumps. The councillors, at the conclusion, expressed their appreciation of the opportunity given to get first-hand 1.r.-w----ledge of the works in hand and the proposals for the future.
