MURDERER MAY YET ESCAPE GUILLOTINE

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received April 23, 10.30 a.m.) DUSSELDORF, April 22: Kuerten, the fiend of Dusseldorf, was sentenced to death on each of the nine murders with which he was charged, and to fifteen years’ imprisonment on four charges of attempted murder. He heard the sentences unmoved. The death sentence is usually commuted in Prussia. The Government will consult the president of the Court. If the sentence is not commuted Kuerten will be guillotined. Kuerten begged forgiveness of his victims’ relatives. The President stated that the evidence had proved that Kuerten was. not insane, but had murdered deliberately and consciously.
