(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND. April 1. The quiet spell was varied yesterday afternoon by considerable activity, and a good volume of business was finalised before brokers closed for the day. Late values were virtually maintained, and « sale of inscribed, tax-free Government Stock at £97 10s reflected the special demand which has set in for this scrip during the past ten days. Batik of New improved again with a sale at BOS, but Sot&th British eased 6d with a sale at £2 14s 6d. At this morning’s call further sales were notified, and fresh bidding showed the better demand. Most of the banks were asked for, with £9 10s offered for
