WOOL PRICES RISE AT LONDON SALES.

STRONG COMPETITION FROM ALL CENTRES. (United P.ress Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received April 1, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Alarch 31. At the wool sales 6338 bales were offered, including 3109 from New Zealand. There was a miscellaneous selection. The sales closed with firm rates ruling. A feature of the series was the strong competition from ail centres. Prices, compared with January closing rates, were:—Alerinos, finest 10 to 15 per cent higher, average 15 to 20 per cent; faulty and carbonising sorts, fully 10 per cent; cross-breds, finest 25 per cent, medium 20 per cent; lambs, Alerinos 10 per cent, cross-breds 20 per cent. The number of bales catalogued was 159,163, and the number sold was 80,000, Continent 70,500; United States 1000; held, 59,000, of which 55,000 were not offered. The total number of Australian bales sold was 84,000, and New Zealand 45,000. New Zealand greasy cross-breds sold as follows: AIP 9}d; Okara, top 9}d, average Bid; Kohata 9}d and 9d; EUR 9d and B}d. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association of Canterbury, Limited, have received the following cable:— London wool sale closed to-day and prices compared with opening raites are as follows: —Alerinos id dearer, crossbreds id to id dearer, slipes id to id dearer. The market is very firm.
