MEN STILL ON BOARD WHEN RANGITATA SAILED
Two members of the Wellington office staff of the New Zealand Shipping Company were very nearly taken to sea by the company’s motor-liner Rangitata on Saturday. The Rangitata was clue to leave Wellington at 3 p.m. for Southampton and London, and as there was still a fair amount of clerical work to be done, arrangements were made for the two officials to continue their tasks while being taken out into the harbour aboard the vessel and to return to the wharf by the Union Company’s tug Natone. Once out in the stream, however, the captain of the Rangitata decided to put straight out to sea. The Natone’s captain. thinking her services were not further required, returned to the wharf, and the first intimation of the staff officials had of their predicament was when a steward inquired of they were going to Panama. The Rangitata was hove-to off Seatoun and a wireless message was sent ashore asking the Natone to return. P.y that time the captain was on his way home, and it was not until an hour later that the officials were able to leave the vessel.
