TEAMS LIMITED TO TEN THIS YEAR.

SENIOR SOCCER DRAW CONDITIONS FIXED. The number of teams that should play in the senior competition and the advisability of dividing it into A and B sections occupied the minds of members of the Canterbury Football Association for over an hour List evening. Mr 11. W. Wilkins, for the Match Committee, said that it appeared there would be ten teams in the senior competition this season. Two entries had been received from the Western Club, but the committee considered it advisable to accept only one. The number of teams in the other grades would be as follows: —Juniors, seven; third grade, four or five; fourth grade, three or four; fifth grade, six; sixth grade, six. “If both entries from the Western Club are accepted,” said Mr Wilkins, “ it will mean eleven teams in the competitions, and, consequently, a bye each Saturday.” Mr J. O’Brien moved that the senior competition comprise ten teams, and that there be no senior B section. This was seconded by Mr J. Cawtheray. An amendment was put forward that both teams from the Western Club be permitted to enter the competition, that there be eleven teams in the qualifying round, and that the best six teams should constitute the senior A section and the remainder the senior B section. The amendment was put to the meeting, there being five votes for it and five against it. The chairman gave his casting vote for the amendment.

Mr Wilkins: The Match Committee resigns. We are asked to draw up a recommendation, and when we do so it is thrown out. This committee is opposed to the playing of two teams from one club in the same grade. Mr G. Brown: I think we should support the resignation. Inquiries were made as to the position of the Villa Club, and it was stated that there seemed a possibility that it would enter a senior team, and also that members of other clubs had resigned to play for Villa. The chairman (Mr G. Dickinson) : As far as this association is concerned, the Villa Club is defunct. It is not affiliated to the association, and has taken no part in the competitions during the past year or two. Keen discussion ensued on the advisability or otherwise of permitting two teams from the Western Club to plav in the senior grade. !dr Rutter moved that no club be allowed to' enter two teams in the senior competition, and that if the second team of any club wins the B grade competition, it must remain in that competition. The motion was carried. It was unanimously decided that the motion passed earlier in the evening, regarding the qualifying round, be rescinded. On the recommendation of the Match Committee, whose resignation was not received, it was decided that ten teams should comprise the qualifying round.
