QN E of the earliest posters ever printed in England is in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. It concerns a Sarum service book, printed in 1480 by Chxton. It reads as follows: If it please any man spiritual or tempore! to bye our pyes of two or thre coinemoracios of Salisburi Use, emprynied after the form of this prese’t letre, whiche ben wel and truly correct, late hym come to Westmonester into the almonestrye at the reed pole, and he shall have the good and chepe. The manner of presentation is formal and unenterprising. The goods advertised belonged to the Middle Ages, which were fast dying.
