THIEVES ENTER THREE PREMISES
SMALL AMOUNT STOLEN FROM SELF-HELP STORE. Thieves were bus}' in the city last evening, but though three places were visited, the criminals secured only £1 worth of goods. The first place, entered during the afternoon was in Cashmere Road, where the residence of the Misses Anderson was entered through a window. Ihe thief did not find anything and departed by the same way as he had gone in. It was evidently not a planned effort, but rather that of a man who found the place empty for a time and took his opportunity. Another place to be entered without success was the office of Mr Sutcliffe at 77. Falsgrave Street, Waltham. Here the thief also used crude methods to break in, but though he upset the place considerably, he did not find anything worth taking. Broke Glass of Door. Thieves who broke into the Riccarton Self-Help store were more successful. They smashed the glass window of the door and attempted to force the lock, but as they were unable to do it, in through the broken window. The thief took about £1 worth of tobacco and some coppers and departed by w r ay of the back door, which was found open this morning. Detectives are investigating the various cases.
