COLMAN IN “RAFFLES.”

The excellent romantic melodrama, “Raffles,” commenced its second week at the Theatre- Royal on Saturday to crowded audiences. Ronald Colman and Kay Francis are the featured players, and their performance in this picture is excellent. The story deals with the adventures of a gentleman crook who successfully outwits the police until, to oblige a friend who is in trouble, lie brings himself wilhin the net of the law. There are many thrilling incidents in the film, particularly the last scene where the gentleman crook, apparently at the mercy of the police, and unable to resist them, makes his escape in the inspector’s cloak. Associated with the principal players is a brilliant cast who contribute in no small measure to tne success of the picture; these include, Bramwell Fletcher, Frances J)ade, David Torrence, Alison Skipworth, Frederick Kerr,-John Rogers and Wilson Benge. Cdlman undoubtedly makes l.ho “cracksman” the most lovable role hte has ever brought to the screen. The character Is a combination of “Bulldog Drummond,” with all that bold fighter's humour, but not his jokes, and the “Michel” of “Condemned,” but with refinement. The story also bears the marks of careful craftsmanship. It opens with Raffles as the clever crook invading a stylish London jeweller’s in search of a suitable bracelet for his lady love.
