The quarter-mile amateur cycling record of New Zealand was broken by the Dominion amateur champion, T. O’Brien (Christchurch), at the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club’s championship meeting at the Caledonian Grounds, Timaru, on Saturday. From a flying start, O’Brien covered the distance in 27 2-ssec, three-fifths of a second under the previous record. O’Brien is New Zealand amateur champion over all distances.
