AÑUAL APPEAL FOR ST JOHN AMBULANCE.

The annual appeal for funds for St John Ambulance Association and Brigade is still going on. Neither the St John Ambulance Association nor the Brigade set out to instruct students to deal finally with cases of injury or sickness. It is laid down in the rules of the association that it exists for the purpose of disseminating general information as to the preliminary treatment of the sick and the injured amongst all classes. Moreover, it is also stated that nothing is further from the intention of the association than any undue interference with, or intrusion upon, the province of the surgeon. The object aimed at is merely the adoption of precautionary measures pending the doctor's arrival. The St John Ambulance Brigade, the trained men and women members of which give their services gratuitously at shows, races and sports meetings, and wherever accidents are likely to happen, also uses large quantities of dressings, bandages, etc., and has to be kept supplied with stretchers, kits and other equipment. The St John Free Ambulance service is claimed to be the least cosfly and most efficient ambulance service in New Zealand. The vehicles are up-to-date and are staffed with skilful drivers and attendants, who are qualified members of the St John Ambulance Brigade.
