ASHBURTON FRUITERER WAS UNABLE TO CARRY oh
(Special to the “Star.”) ASHBURTON, March 25. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Edwin Alexander Brown, fruiterer, of Ashburton, was set down for to-day, but lapsed, Only one creditor attending. The amount owing unsecured creditors was £lB5 8s 7d. Assets were showm at £2B 17s 4d, leaving a deficiency of £156 11s 3d. The principal unsecured creditors were:—Christchurch firm, £SO; A. H. Fenn, Ashburton, £l2; St George Atkinson and Co., Christchurch, £6 14s 2d; Nestles. Ltd., Christchurch, £9 11s' 7d.
In his sworn statement, bankrupt said that he started business in June, 1930, with a capital of £BO, but on account of the depression and a price war in the fruit trade, he was unable to carry on.
