INCREASED COST OF RADIO MESSAGES.
an additional penny added to each word. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, March 25. When the announcement of the in. creased postal and telegraphic charges was made at the end of last month there was no reference to the charges for wireless messages. An Order-in-Council has now been gazetted fixing new and slightly higher charges, to take effect from April 1. The charge for radio telegrams to or from overseas ships not registered in New Zealand or Australia has been increased from lOd to lid a word, of which the ship receives 4d as before, and the land station 7d, instead of 6d. the charge to or from coastal or intercolonial ships registered in New Zealand or Australia has been increased from 5d to 6d. the extra Id going to the land station. The charges for ships trading exclusively between Wellington and Lyttelton remains at 2!d a word, with a minimum of Is 3d, and ships in the Government service are put on the same basis.
